Innovative Academic Model,
Rooted in Social Justice

A Passionate Community with Strong Outcomes

The Social Justice School is a BIPOC-led public charter school in Washington, D.C., where all are welcome. SJS had the highest increase in PARCC proficiency for middle schoolers in our ward for English Language Arts and Math. Our students are active in their community, such as volunteering at Election Day.

Small Class Sizes

The Social Justice School is an intentionally smaller than average middle school because research shows that more individualized attention leads to better outcomes. Classes have an average of 1:12 teacher-student ratio, and students meet daily with their Crew (1 teacher, 6 students) to talk about everything from projects to pop culture. All voices deserve to be heard, understood, and accepted.

Unique Opportunities to Explore and Create

We believe that if Google does it, we think our students should get to do it as well. Our curriculum features liberatory design thinking workshops and maker spaces. Recent activities include:
