In Spring 2025, we created and shared our first Impact Report. We are proud of our progress in the first five years, and we look forward to the next. Thank you to our community for believing in the Social Justice School. Onwards!

LETTER FROM OUR FOUNDER

In Washington, D.C., deep educational inequities persist, disproportionately affecting Black and Brown students. With 60% of our scholar-activists considered at-risk and 95% identifying as Black, the Social Justice School exists to disrupt systemic barriers and provide an education rooted in liberation, equity, and community empowerment. In a city where wealth and opportunity gaps continue to widen, our school is a necessary space for students to develop critical consciousness, academic excellence, and advocacy skills to drive meaningful change. Now more than ever, we must cultivate young leaders who can reimagine and build a just future for D.C. and beyond.

At first, the Social Justice School was my story. And as the years have gone on, I’ve been unbelievably grateful and honored that it has become our story. Ours: with Founding Principal Brandon Johnson and an amazing group of teachers, administrators, and staff  who are dedicated. Ours: the Scholar-Activists who show up every day and engage with the work Ours: the families, guardians, neighbors, community partners, consultants, and foundations who believe in what we’re trying to do here. Ours: a collective belief in the future of not only education, but the United States of America.

I love this school. I am so grateful to everyone who has believed in this work, and I’m proud of what we’ve done so far. Let’s keep going.
