5th Grade - Ture

Lead Teacher: Ms. Williams

Named after civil rights organizer, Kwame Ture, we strive to instill in our youngest scholars the spirit of activism held by their namesake.

6th Grade - Rustin

Bayard Rustin was a civil rights organizer who held leadership roles in many of the most historic moments of the US Civil Rights Movement. Rustin's intersectionality and activism are imparted to our scholars.

6th Grade - Cooper

Named after civil rights organizer, Kwame Ture, we strive to instill in our youngest scholars the spirit of activism held by their namesake.

7th Grade - Morrison

Named after Nobel and prize-winning author, Toni Morrison, scholars are empowered to address injustice much like their namesake did through her written works.

7th Grade - Jimenez

This cohort is named after political activist Jose "Cha-Cha" Jimenez., who was a founder of the Young Lords in Chicago. He lifted up his community by promoting cultural pride, providing free breakfast, daycare, and healthcare, all while actively fight oppression and striving for liberation.

8th Grade - Lorde

Named after New York poet laureate, Audre Lorde, scholars are encouraged to fight injustice through their creative efforts. Audre Lorde used her talents to fight racism, sexism, homophobia, and classism.

8th Grade - Baldwin

This cohort is named after writer and activist, James Baldwin.  He is known for using his creative talents as a vehicle for his activism. Baldwin's writing analyzed oppression in America based on race and sexual identity.
